The Timeless Appeal Of Reboots: A Look At Full House And Fuller House

Reboots walk a fine line between what made something popular in its prime and what will connect with the modern television audience. And then there's Full House. Frequently, these new versions of beloved shows don't always work (we're talking to you, X-Files), but sometimes it's made to look effortless (hello, Will and Grace). But Full House, well it seems like its reboot was always destined to be a hit, no questions asked, since the original series is still just as popular as ever.

Full House ran on ABC for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995 and introduced the world to the Tanners: Widower Danny (Bob Saget), his three girls D.J. (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweeten), and Michelle (played by twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). Helping Danny out was his brother-in-law Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos) and best friend Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier). And then there was D.J.'s best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) and boyfriend Steve Hale (Scott Weinger). Jesse's girlfriend and eventual wife Rebecca Donaldson (Lori Loughlin) became a regular part of the show, and the duo would have twin boys Nicky and Alex (Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit).

In February of 2016, Netflix debuted the new version of the show that already has three seasons ready to stream at any moment. Called Fuller House, D.J. Tanner-Fuller is a veterinarian and widowed mother of three sons — Jackson (Michael Campion), Max (Elias Harger), and Tommy, Jr. (played by twins Dashiell and Fox Messitt) — who are all living in the old family home. Joining her is Stephanie and Kimmy, along with Kimmy's daughter Ramona (Soni Nicole Bringas). Other regular characters are the returning Steve Hale (Scott Weinger), who is pursuing D.J. again despite the fact she was dating co-worker Matt Harmon (John Brotherton), and Kimmy's younger brother, Jimmy (Adam Hagenbuch), who is dating Stephanie. Actors reprising their roles from the original but aren't in every episode are John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, Dave Coulier, and Bob Saget.

But no, there isn't any sign of Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen as Michelle. How rude! From the start, Fuller House has been a hit with viewers who have welcomed the Tanners back like old friends. There simply aren't a lot of shows that could do that. To celebrate, we're offering up this behind-the-scenes look at life in the Tanner home, giving you secrets from the set of Full House and its reboot too.
