According to Celebrity Net Worth, Michelle has amassed a fortune of around $40 million. Interestingly, her husband Barack Obama‘s net worth is thought to also be $40 million making the Obamas’ combined net worth an impressive $80 million. While Barack was reportedly paid around $400,000 per year when he was president, the FLOTUS does not earn an annual salary because she wasn’t elected into the position. So how did Michelle earn her fortune, exactly? Primarily by previously working as a lawyer, by authoring lots of books, and being paid for speeches and other public appearances.
After attending Chicago’s Whitney Young High School, the future FLOTUS went to Princeton University where she majored in sociology and minored in African American studies. Michelle graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985. In 1988, Michelle earned her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. She was the third First Lady in US history to have a postgraduate degree after her two immediate predecessors, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born on Jan. 17, 1964, in Chicago to Fraser Robinson III — a city water plant employee — and homemaker Marian Shields Robinson. Michelle, her parents, and her older brother, Craig Robinson, grew up in a two-story bungalow on Euclid Avenue in Chicago’s South Shore community area. The Robinsons rented a small apartment on the second floor from Michelle’s great-aunt, who lived downstairs.
Michelle was raised United Methodist. She and her husband, Barack, were married in the Trinity United Church of Christ, but the couple later left the church in 2008. After moving to Washington, DC in 2009, Barack and Michelle attended several different Protestant churches including Shiloh Baptist Church and St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Michelle met her future husband, Barack, while they were both working at Chicago’s Sidley Austin LLP law firm. At the time, Michelle was assigned to mentor Barack while he was serving as a summer associate at the firm. Their first date was to see the 1989 Spike Lee movie Do the Right Thing. Barack and Michelle later married in October 1992.

Probably not! “No, I’m not gonna run for President,” Michelle said in December 2015. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a change of heart, though!
